Cambria Cooks is simply a home for some of my favorite recipes. Of course, there's also the occassional story about some aspect of growing, harvesting, or preparing the food.

Over the course of the last few years, I've found myself moving backwards in time. Rather than buying the newest of kitchen gadgets, I'm shopping over in the Cambria Emporium for the types of kitchen tools that my Grandma and Great-Grandma had in their kitchens.
What I find so amazing is that there really is a difference in the taste of products when a hand-cranked grinder is used rather than an electric one. And, that certainly holds true for presentation. Items such as potato salad can take you back through time when they are served in a container similar to what you remember it being served in as a child.
In fact, when I was growing up there were certain containers that were used only for certain things. There was the cast iron skillet that was used for cornbread, there was another cast iron skillet used for frying chicken, and still another for cooking all things containing tomato like okra and tomatoes. A blue pottery bowl with a lid held potato salad until it was ready to serve. Then there was the special big pot used for cooking up fig preserves. I'm sure you can think of your own examples.
So, off to the place of memories and food (there's some great old cook books there as well.
